Gurdeep and Heather met in nursing school in the fall of 2015. Heather made a quick impression when sh snapped her fingers at Gurdeeep for sitting in her seat (She’s a creature of habit). They became friends and remained friends throughout nursing school. After nursing school, they both got positions working in the same emergency department which cemented their friendship even further.
It wasn’t until the fall of 2018 after some encouragement by our mutual friends and coworkers, Gurdeep asked me Heather on a date, he used the words “hang out” so it took her a little to catch on. “It is a pretty amazing feeling when your best friend becomes the love of your life!”
Gurdeep proposed to her on April 13th, 2020. They were supposed to be going on a vacation with my family to Disneyworld and he planned on doing it there. However, with the shelter in place orders, his plans got derailed and they had to cancel our vacation.
April 13th is the anniversary of them saying “I love you ” to each other for the first time, so Gurdeep was adamant about making the proposal happen on this important date. Don’t judge them too harshly, but they traveled to the beach in Carmel (despite the current situation) where they first exchanged those words. He got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.
To add to the excitement, as they were walking back to our car after the proposal and Park Ranger ended up stopping them, lecturing them and wrote them both tickets for defying the shelter in place order.
Despite that happening, they still wouldn’t change that moment for anything. Makes for a good story though right!? We think so!
