Historic redwood, reclaimed wine barrels, and chandeliers with an unexpected past. At Mountain House Estate, some of the prettiest details come with stories of their own.

Imagine walking into your wedding reception and seeing everything come together.

Your flowers look beautiful against the warm wood. The lighting feels just right. Your favorite people are finding their seats, and you’re taking in the setting you chose together.

Now imagine knowing that some of the wood surrounding you came from a barn built on that very property in the 1800s.

It gives you another reason to love the room.

At Mountain House Estate, sustainability isn’t just about the things you decide to buy for your wedding. It’s also about what was thoughtfully preserved, repurposed, and cared for before you arrived.

Choosing a setting with those details already in place lets you enjoy them—without adding another project to your wedding plans.

Here are some of the stories waiting to become part of your celebration.

A Wedding Ballroom With More Than a Century of History

Some wedding details deserve a closer look.

Much of the redwood accenting our ballroom came from a barn built on this property by the McDonald family in the 1800s. Rather than discard the timber, we gave it another purpose.

Look closely, and you can still find original square nails embedded in the wood.

We also incorporated the enormous, 12-foot-tall redwood wine pungeon staves reclaimed from a Napa Valley winery, bringing another piece of California’s winemaking history into the room.

Picture those textures behind your flowers, in your reception photographs, and around the tables where your families gather.

You aren’t starting with a room that needs decorations to give it personality. The character is already there.

Your colors, flowers, and favorite details make it yours.

Wine Country Details With a Second Life

A wine barrel’s story doesn’t have to end when the wine is gone.

We’ve collected retired barrels from wineries in Sonoma and Mendocino counties and found new places for them throughout the estate.

Our custom bar features wine barrel staves mounted horizontally, giving it a distinctive texture. Other barrels have become rolling trash receptacles that blend into the surroundings, while additional barrels are available as cocktail tables or decorative accents.

Outside, recycled deck wood forms our vineyard perimeter fence. Reclaimed redwood deck boards also became the grape arbor where couples can take wedding portraits.

These pieces aren’t simply there to fill a space. They connect the setting to the region around it.

And for you, they’re details you can enjoy without finding, transporting, and arranging every element yourself.

Even the Chandeliers Have a Story

When you look up at our custom chandeliers, you might not immediately recognize what they used to be.

Those distinctive iron shapes began as vintage tractor implement wheels.

We transformed them into hanging light fixtures, with one welcoming guests at the ballroom entrance and another hanging in the rustic barn. Each uses LED bulbs and individual dimmer controls, allowing the light to soften as the evening unfolds.

It’s a lovely transformation: something once made for practical agricultural work now lighting a celebration.

You may notice the warm glow first. Learning the story gives you something else to smile about.

An Unexpected Beginning for Your Walk Down the Aisle

The aisle at Oak Tree Terrace has one of the estate’s more unusual stories.

According to the estate’s history, early Trex composite decking products experienced structural formulation problems, and entire semi-truck loads of material were headed for disposal.

We reclaimed that material and found new uses for it. The boards now form the weather-resistant aisle leading to the Oak Tree Terrace ceremony stage, the viewing deck in front of our vegetable garden shed, and raised beds in the garden.

Something destined to be discarded became part of the place where couples exchange vows.

Of course, when you’re walking down that aisle, you probably won’t be thinking about the boards beneath your feet.

You’ll be looking at the person waiting for you.

But there’s something meaningful about knowing that even this part of the setting has a story worth keeping.

Fresh Ingredients and Gardens With a Purpose

Your wedding menu can reflect what you love while making room for the season.

Depending on availability, vegetables, organic herbs, and edible flowers grown in the estate’s garden may find their way into wedding menus. Chef Cesar Orozco also cultivates produce in his personal gardens, providing another source of locally grown ingredients.

Through Sonoma County Catering, couples can explore menus that reflect their tastes, from Italian dishes and Mexican family favorites to seasonal meals and more elaborate celebrations.

Maybe food is one of the things you’re most excited to share with your guests. Tell us what you love, then talk with the culinary team about how seasonal ingredients could become part of it.

The care behind the flowers

The gardens have their own behind-the-scenes story.

We compost grass clippings and non-woody landscape prunings, returning organic material to the soil. Vegetable and flower beds use targeted drip irrigation. Organic mulch from local mills helps retain moisture and control weeds, while specialized pathway mulch creates walkways that fit into the landscape.

Even the borders and planting beds have local roots. Native rocks collected by hand define garden spaces and pathways, and useful rocks uncovered during maintenance are saved near the rear parking lot for future projects.

When local vineyards moved from heavy steel grape bins to plastic macro bins, we repurposed some of the older steel containers as raised garden beds.

You might first notice the flowers or the setting for a photograph. Behind that view are years of smaller decisions about how to care for the property.

More Than 100 Tons of Reclaimed Materials Beneath Your Feet

Not every thoughtful detail ends up in a wedding photograph.

When Caltrans repaved Highway 128, we worked with the contractor to reclaim more than 100 tons of asphalt grindings and rock that otherwise would have been discarded. Those materials became durable, all-weather roads and parking surfaces around the estate.

We also reclaimed river-run gravel displaced during nearby creek maintenance projects. It became a permeable, stabilized sub-base for the rear parking area, helping support heavier vehicles, including shuttle buses during winter celebrations.

Roads and parking may not be what makes you fall in love with a venue.

But they matter when you’re welcoming the people you’ve invited. It’s another example of giving existing materials a useful role in the experience.

A Full-Service Wedding With Less to Purchase and Coordinate

Picture your reception tables: the linens, the glasses, the place settings, and the chairs where everyone will gather.

At Mountain House Estate, we maintain an inventory of reusable wedding essentials, including tables, chairs, linens, dinnerware, flatware, and glassware. These pieces serve celebrations repeatedly rather than relying on disposable items for standard dining and bar service.

Having much of that inventory on-site also reduces the need for separate rental deliveries and pickups. Dedicated commercial debris and recycling bins help separate recyclable materials from ordinary waste.

For you, that can mean fewer items to source and fewer arrangements to coordinate.

You can spend more of your attention on the choices you’re excited about: the flowers, the menu, the music, and the personal touches that make guests say, “This feels so much like them.”

Being thoughtful about waste doesn’t have to mean making your wedding harder to plan.

Romantic Lighting, Thoughtfully Chosen

As evening arrives, the estate takes on another feeling.

Landscape lights highlight the mature trees. Market lights glow above the lawn. Bistro lighting makes the patio an inviting place to linger.

Throughout the property, we use LED technology—from parking lot safety fixtures and landscape lighting to the market lights, patio lights, and custom chandeliers.

Imagine stepping away together for a few evening photographs, then looking back toward the people you love gathered beneath the lights.

You get to enjoy that atmosphere knowing the lighting was chosen with energy efficiency in mind, too.

A Beautiful Setting That Reflects What Matters to You

Maybe sustainability is high on your wedding wish list.

Or perhaps you simply love places with history, craftsmanship, and details you won’t find everywhere else.

You don’t have to appreciate every feature for the same reason.

You might fall in love with the ballroom’s wood before learning about the McDonald family barn. You may choose the grape arbor for your photographs before discovering where its redwood came from.

That’s part of the pleasure of getting to know a place.

And because these details are already here, you don’t need to recreate them for your wedding. You can focus on adding the things that belong to your story.

Schedule a private tour of Mountain House Estate and come see the details for yourself.

Look for the square nails. Take a closer look at the chandeliers. Tell us where you picture your guests gathering and what you’d love to share with them.

Your wedding will bring its own memories to the estate.

We’d love to show you the stories already waiting here.
